STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathematics, commonly used in relation to education and skills. While STEM skills are becoming increasingly important for every type of job there are a number of sectors where STEM skills are integral, including advanced manufacturing and computer science.


However, STEM is an approach to teaching that is larger than the four constituent parts. STEM removes the traditional barriers erected between the four disciplines, by integrating the four subjects into one cohesive approach of teaching.

These are sometimes also called 21st Century Skills that students need to be successful in today’s world regardless of specific interests or career goals.

This means STEM education has something to offer every student. One that centers around individual students learning styles and interests.

STEM moves beyond simple test performance and focuses on developing higher level thinking skills by connecting classroom learning to the real world.

STEM emphasized collaboration, communication, research, problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity.
STEM is a direct response to the realization that our future will be built on our capacity for innovation, invention and creative problem-solving.
